Configurable Charging
Precisely set the input and output current with simple controls. This helps protect alternators against overloading and to charge the service battery properly, especially in case of intelligent alternators.
Parallel to Increase Output Current
An unlimited number of XS devices can be connected in parallel, making scaling the output current to match your system’s requirement easy.
Smart Alternator Compatibility
With its built-in engine shutdown detection, the Orion XS guarantees the charger only draws power when the engine is running. It also helps retrieving proper charge current from smart alternators.
Adaptive Charge Algorithm
The Orion XS includes customizable charging algorithms and 8 battery preset modes. For lead acid batteries, these settings ensure optimal absorption times for both shallow and deep discharges.
Complete Electronic Protection
The Orion XS comes equipped with comprehensive electronic protection against overload, short circuit and excessive temperatures. It will automatically reduce the output power when maximum product temperature is reached.
Low Temperature Shutdown & Under-Voltage Protection
To prevent damage of lithium batteries, the charger will turn off automatically at low temperatures and when the input voltage drops below a user-configurable lockout value, protecting the starter battery from deep discharge.

I recently installed the Victron Orion XS Charger in my 2019 Ram ProMaster, and it is performing as expected. Previously, I used a Li-BIM relay to charge my house batteries, but after six years it stopped working correctly. Installation of the Orion was straightforward, and its compact design made it easy to mount even in the tight space where I had my Li-BIM installed.
Performance has been excellent. The charger delivers consistent, stable charging from the ProMaster’s 220-amp alternator. It turns on smoothly after engine start, and provides reliable charging to my house batteries.
It integrates well with the VictronConnect app which I use with my other Victron devices as well. Bluetooth setup was quick, and having full visibility into voltages, current, charging stages, and historical data makes system monitoring easy. Adjusting the Orion’s settings and fine-tuning its behavior for my vehicle took only a few minutes.
Overall, this charger feels like a premium, well-thought-out solution for my van’s electrical system. I’m glad I’m using it in my ProMaster to provide reliable alternator-charging. I was always a little worried that I could be over driving my alternator with the Li-BIM, even though I never saw more than 100amps pass through it.
